As per ancient Hindu tradition and belief, Vastu Shastra compliant homes emit positive energy which brings goodness to the people living in the home. Vastu Shastra may not be essential for living, but it is helpful for a better and healthier life. It is the science of environment you live in. How important is Vastu Shastra for human can be gauged from the importance of Brahmasthan in Home/Property. Presently, again many people are looking for good Vastu for a positive home. For a house to become a home, it needs to radiate the right kind of positive energy. According to a number of traditional beliefs, each home comes with its own energy type. A person dwelling in a house comes under the influence of a specific energy field, which in turn influences him in one way or the other. Therefore it’s very crucial to understand the link between the healing art of Vastu and our homes by bringing in positivity and good vibes. Keeping in mind the ready-to-move-in houses or apartments where structural changes are not possible, Vastu experts recommend ways you can bring balance to your home with remedial measures as prescribed in Vastu Shastra.

Vastu Shastra prescribes the East, North and Northeast as the most favourable directions that your house should face. However, there's more to it than just blindly setting the house to face one of these directions.

It can bring in health, wealth and prosperity if supported by other Vastu rules. Only thing that the main male member of the house may remain out of the house for a longer time if the door faces west and a female if the door faces North. Normally doors facing East, North, North East are said to be good doors.

According to Vastu, the entrance should ideally face the north, northeast, east, or west, as these facilitates prosperity. If you have to place the main entrance facing south, ensure to correct the Vastu by placing a pyramid or helix. The door should open inwards in the clockwise direction.

It's a common myth that west-facing homes are not as auspicious as north and east-facing homes. However, according to Vastu Shastra, all homes are considered equally auspicious, and there is no such thing that west-facing homes are not as good as north or east-facing homes.

The direction of the main entrance as per Vastu, is the most important aspect, while taking a rental home. The best entry is north-east, followed by north-west, east. North and west-facing homes are also considered good. Avoid homes with south, south-east and south-west entries.

According to Vastu Shastra, east, north and north-east-facing homes are most auspicious. However, this is not the sole determinant for the entry of positive energy into your household. The north direction is dedicated to Kuber, the God of wealth and going by this logic, north-facing homes should have been most popular.

How to know the direction of your house – First, Stand at the entrance door of your home facing outside (as if you're going out of your home). Next: Record the direction you are facing, using a compass, while you are in the position of going out. and there you are, the direction that you have just noted, is the direction your house faces.

Locate the safety locker at the South wall facing the North. The door of the locker should preferably open to the North, which is the direction of 'Kubera' (God of Wealth) as per Vastu. Do not place the locker in North-East corner as it would cause loss of wealth.

People seeking happiness, peace and prosperity in life should consider placing an idol of a white Ganesha at home. Sticking photos of white Ganesha would be equally helpful. Similarly, those who desire self-growth should bring home a vermilion coloured Ganesha. This is considered auspicious according to Vastu. Lord Ganesha among the various powerful Hindu Gods is said to be the god of prosperity and wealth. Lord Ganesha is believed to bring good luck and thus he is worshiped before anything new is started. It is indeed very lucky to keep a Ganesha idol at home or at your workplace not only does it embellish the place but also attracts positive vibes wherever it is kept. Ganesha also known as 'Vighnaharta' is said to help us overcome any obstacles in the house or at workplace. The idol of God should never be placed in a temple or anywhere else in the house in such a way that its back part is not visible. The idol should be visible from the front. Looking at the back of God's idol is not considered auspicious.

Some colours bring positive energy to the living room. As per Vastu, white, light yellow, green and blue are the best choices for the living area as they bring in a tranquil vibe. Use these colours on their own or in a combination to maximize the positivity in the space.

Sea salt is very effective according to Vastu Shastra for a house. Placing small portions of uncrushed sea salt is an immediate remedy for Vastu dosh. It absorbs all the negative energy from home. Alternatively, you could also mix a pinch of sea salt in the water that you use to clean the floor.

Keeping portraits or photos of the dead  - This is normally done  to remember and show respect to the elders. But as per Vastu Shastra, is not considered auspicious. But as per Vastu Shastra, is not considered auspicious. Keeping portraits or photos of the dead in puja room, study or bedroom not only brings bad luck, but may also cost you your family's peace and prosperity.

What should be placed in front of main door? A clean house, especially the main entrance, attracts positive energy. Avoid keeping dustbins, broken chairs or stools, near the main door.

The recommended sleeping direction as per Vastu Shastra is that you lie down with your head pointed southward. A north-to-south body position is considered the worst direction.

Check whether there is any cut in the south west side of your house/plot or office. This indicates that the legs of Vastu Purush are missing. This problem may indicate instability in your personal and professional life. - Kitchen and toilets should not be located in the north or the north-east side of your plot.

The main door should be constructed in a way to ensure that when you step out, you face the north, east or north-east direction:

Considered as the “archway to victory and progress in life”, the main door should face north, east or in the north-east direction. It must be constructed in a way to ensure that when you step out, you face the north, east or north-east direction.

The main door to your home should be constructed with superior quality wood. It should tower above the other doors in your house, and look the most appealing.

Avoid placing a fountain, or any other decorative water-centric element, outside the main door.

Avoid placing a shoe rack or dustbin outside the main door.

There shouldn’t be a bathroom near the main door.

Ensure the main entrance is well lit.

Avoid painting the main door black.

Decorate your door with beautiful nameplates and auspicious torans.

Avoid placing animal statues or figurines near the main door.

Ensure your main door opens in a clockwise manner.

5 tips to transform the energy ratios in your bedroom to help positively influence your sleep:

Ideally, the bedroom in a south-west direction brings good health and prosperity. Avoid a bedroom in the north-east or south-east zone of the house as the former may cause health issues, while a bedroom placed in the latter direction may cause quarrels among couples. The bed should be placed in the southwest corner of the bedroom, with your head facing west.

Avoid placing a mirror or television in front of the bed. Your reflection must not be seen in a mirror when in bed as it causes fights and other domestic disruptions.

Paint your bedroom walls in neutral or earthy shades as it radiates positive energy. Avoid painting your walls black.

Avoid having a temple, paintings depicting water or a fountain in the bedroom as it could cause emotional outbursts.

Use mood lighting and burn aromatic oils to create an oasis of calm.

Vaastu wise – Kitchen

*Many people have temples in the kitchen: Although God is omni-present he should be given a sacred and serene place within the house. A kitchen is a fire area and hence a temple should never be there, or else it would lead to unexpected problems and unknown irritation among the inhabitants.

*Placing small things within the kitchen: We should never store medicines in the kitchen as it causes too much illness among the family members. Keeping keys in the kitchen takes away prosperity. Keeping money for petty expenses is also not good as it leads to increase in expenses.

*Gas stove in the kitchen: The best is to face the east while cooking as it offers a cool and peaceful nature to the lady of the house and even the food cooked excels in nutrition and goodness.

*A good strategy is to place the dustbin under the kitchen or bathroom sink and to leave it exposed as opposed to hiding it behind closet doors. This way it's easier to use it without having to constantly open and close the door.

Placing trash cans in the right direction is also important, according to Vastu. Here is a quick guide on that: The south-west, the west or the north-west are ideal directions to place garbage cans in the house.

Vaastu wise – Prayer Room

*The Mandir in the house should never be positioned next to a toilet, within a bedroom or kitchen or underneath the staircase. Care should be taken not to construct any structure above the prayer room or else, symbolically, you would end up stepping on it.

*The most Vastu compliant direction for a Prayer Room is the north-east as the sun’s first rays falls in this direction, makes it sacred and divine.

*Lord Ganesha’s pictures and idols are commonly seen placed on tiles and on top of the front entrance door or gate of the house. Vastu does not approve of this. The reason being, that Goddess Lakshmi’s sister, Daridata, meaning poverty, features on Ganesha’s back. Hence when placing Lord Ganesha’s image or idol with the back facing the house, he is inviting poverty and bad luck into his house.

*Fire is believed to be a powerful cosmic cleanser. It is advisable to burn earthen lamp and incense sticks morning and evening.

*As per Vastu, the best and most auspicious direction and place for the Puja room is the north-east corner of your house. If north-east placement is not feasible, it can be set up in the east or the west side of the house.

How to Attract Money into Your Home

Remove anything unnecessary or broken. Use colors like red, green and violet to attract prosperity. If your entrance isn't attractive, no one will visit, including prosperity. Make sure your kitchen is always clean. Remove any traces of clutter in your home. A warm bedroom. Don't flush it away.

The placement of the clock in a house is subject to Vastu and influences the life of the residents. The clock should not be fixed at the south, south-west and south-east parts of the house as it will seriously affect punctuality of the inmates. Ideal spots to place a clock are north and east.

What direction should a TV be placed? Ideally, the TV should be installed in the southeast corner of the living room. The north east or the south west directions are best avoided when it comes to placing your TV in the social space in the house so that the positive energies in the room are not blocked.

Where should one hang pictures of ancestors in the house? The best location to place pictures ideally with golden frame of ancestors is the South West corner or the South wall. Further, the bottom of the frame of the photograph should be above the height of the tallest person of the house or simply  above six feet  height.
